Porcelain Breeze Blocks

Breeze Blocks are patterned concrete/cement or porcelain blocks that resemble bricks. They are versatile solutions for a variety of walling needs.

About Porcelain Breeze Blocks

Porcelain Breeze Blocks are patterned porcelain blocks that resemble bricks. Unlike bricks, which are uniform in style and structure, each porcelain block has a unique appearance with a pattern cut out, allowing for ventilation and individualistic design as a result of the negative spaces.

Unlike Cement Breeze Blocks, which made their debut in the 1930s through to the 1970s, porcelain Breeze Blocks are very new to the market. Manufactured in Italy, they are inspired by the defensive openings found in the walls of medieval castles. Creating a very avante-garde, meets art-deco, meets minimalism aesthetic, porcelain Breeze Blocks are the ideal choice for decorative and functional walling solutions for your home.

porcelain Breeze Blocks are made from clay. Cooked at high temperatures, clay breeze blocks have near zero water absorption, which means you do not need to seal the clay blocks to protect them from environmental factors like rain, wind and the sun. So if you are looking for an extremely low-maintenance wall product, porcelain Breeze Blocks are definitely for you.

Installed indoors or outdoors, Porcelain Breeze Blocks are available in two designs: Castello and Piqué. Castello blocks come in white, clay and grey colours, while Piqué is available in Anthracite, Bordeaux, Sand and White. They are versatile and can be used for a variety of walling purposes. Outdoors you can use them as alfresco screens, outdoor seating, fence infill panels, stand-alone screens, barbeque casing, garden screens, and even window infills. Indoors you can install clay blocks as space separators, feature walls, kitchen decorations and so much more. Your Terracotta Breeze wall or fence project is limited only by your imagination.

Castello Breeze Blocks have their opening cut off centre and off axis, which allows you to install these breeze blocks in eight different positions. This is different to Cement Breeze Blocks which are more uniform in design, so if you’re looking for uniformity, consider cement blocks over porcelain ones. But if you want build a wall or screen with no apparent repetitions, the Castello terracotta breeze blocks are the perfect solution. Additionally to an asymmetrical style, they form a kaleidoscopic interplay with light, where different shades and hues are created as a result of each blocks plane being set at varying angles. Furthermore, when light penetrates through the openings in these porcelain breeze blocks, it forms multiple reflected rectangular shapes. So not only are Castello porcelain breeze blocks functional, they can also serve as creative installations of modern art wherever they are installed.

Piqué porcelain Breeze Blocks are inspired by the 18th century technique of weaving double cloth with a heavy cording weft, Piqué porcelain Breeze Blocks add a modern touch wherever they are installed. They also create a kaleidoscopic play of light wherever they are installed.

How to lay porcelain Breeze Blocks

From a constructive perspective, Porcelain Breeze Blocks are typically laid in a stack bond pattern. This means that the clay blocks are simply stacked on top of each other. This layout creates bold vertical vectors which in turn create an ideal design for non-structural veneers and architectural shade screens, garden screens, walling and more.

Porcelain Breeze Blocks require Portland cement mortar and fine sand for adhesion, as well as an 8mm joint between pieces and the use of spacers to ensure a more solid structure. It is also advised to install galvanised rods between horizontal joints in all rows and between vertical joints in the columns to help stabilise the wall.

As previously mentioned, clay breeze blocks do not absorb water. This means that they do not require sealing and do not dilate due to exposure to water. In saying this, if the porcelain blocks are installed in spaces with high humidity, we recommend joining them using waterproof adhesive in order to prevent water infiltrating the clay block and forming dampness between the joints.

While you can install Porcelain Breeze Blocks yourself – “DIY style”- we strongly recommend working with an experienced and licensed professional. Why? Well, you want the job done right and done once. It saves you time and money in the long term.

Another important consideration if you live in areas in Sydney that are more susceptible to bushfires, is the fire safety of your chosen wall and screening material. Porcelain Breeze Blocks, are manufactured from clay that is heated at high temperatures, which means that they have a higher resistance to fires. In saying that, they are not entirely fire-proof, simply fire-resistant. So, if you need something fireproof, we suggest you consider an alternative walling option.

So if you are working on a budget, with high hopes for your home and garden to look as beautiful as possible, we strongly recommend considering Porcelain Breeze Blocks for your home build or renovation project.

In addition to Porcelain Breeze Blocks, our outdoor product options include stone cappingstone pavers and porcelain paversstepping stonespedestalspool tilescobblestones and much more. In addition to quality and eye-catching appearance, we also ensure that our materials adhere to the highest industry safety standards.
