Travertine Pavers

Travertine pavers and tiles are strong, durable and low maintenance.

Why Choose Travertine Pavers?

Are you looking to transform your backyard, courtyard, or patio with a timeless natural look? Then Travertine Pavers may be your ideal choice of stone!

For centuries, travertine was used as a building material across Ancient Europe and Italy. It has now become increasingly popular for exterior paving and its unique worn look also makes a beautiful and decorative stone.

Travertine is a light-coloured, calcite-based stone formed from mineral springs. It is typically found in limestone caves or at the mouth of hot springs.

Travertine pavers are strong, durable, and low-maintenance pavers. As a light-coloured stone, it’s surprisingly easy on the eyes – even on the brightest days! High-density, first-grade travertine pavers can also be laid on a sand base. However, in saying this, it is better to lay them on a sand-cement base rather than a river-sand bed as this will help you grout the joints in between the stones.

Use Travertine Pavers to Stay Cool Underfoot

Given that it is a desert climate, temperatures in Australia can reach highs of 40 degrees Celsius and higher. When installing a paver for your walkway, patio or outdoor entertainment area, you want to consider a material that will stay cool under the feet during such extreme heatwaves. Travertine pavers are renowned for staying exceptionally cool even when exposed all day to direct sunlight which makes them ideal for the Australian climate.

Another benefit of travertine is that it doesn’t fade. These pavers have a consistent colour variation and thickness. As already mentioned, they’re ideal for a hot climate. On the flip side, they can also withstand freezing temperatures without cracking under the pressure of changing climates.

As with all natural stones, sealing your travertine pavers is recommended. This will help increase the stone’s longevity by protecting the stone from environmental factors and resisting stains penetrating into it. While some people want to maintain a natural look for their travertine pavers and don’t grout them, this can become problematic as the spaces between stones can collect dirt. As it’s a natural stone, this can be tough to clean and can attract mould and mildew. As such, to maintain your paver’s cleanliness and aesthetic, it’s best to grout the paver joints and the entire paver.

Travertine Pavers for Patios, Terraces & more

If you are looking for a paver for your poolside area, we recommend that you get a “B” grade travertine which is less slippery than your average tumbled travertine. At Armstone, we conduct a “Wet Pendulum Test” on our stones and tumbled Travertine has a P3 rating which isn’t the best for wet surfaces.

Whether you are upgrading or building a patio, terrace or patio area, our travertine pavers will give your home, that luxurious look you’ve always wanted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Travertine pavers are made from blocks of travertine, a calcite-based, sedimentary stone typically found in earth deposits near mineral springs. Minerals and other substances seep into the deposit, giving each rock piece a unique appearance with an array of colours and patterns. Travertine pavers are available in various sizes.

Travertine pavers add a timeless and natural look to any area in your home. They’re also a strong and durable stone, providing longevity to all your exterior surfaces. They stay exceptionally cool underfoot even when exposed to extreme heat, making them an ideal paver for Sydney’s intense summers.

As they have a pitted surface, travertine tiles easily collect dirt within them. This is why regular sweeping and mopping the pavers using warm water mixed with a mild, non-abrasive detergent, is recommended to keep them clean. In the case of tough stains, a non-acidic poultice powder can do the trick. Like all natural pavers, we recommend sealing your travertine stones to prevent surface staining and damage. If you use a good quality sealant, travertine pavers require resealing every 6 years. Armstone offers a wide selection of sealers, cleaners and stain removers for travertine pavers.

If you intend to transform your courtyard, patio or backyard, travertine pavers are a stunning and versatile material! Additionally, they are less expensive than many other natural stones. If you want to invest in a quality material, at Armstone we source our natural travertine from the best suppliers in the world. For a quote, contact us online or by calling 1300 560 560.

After some initial inspiration at the Armstone showroom, Arman and Lachlan were very helpful in assisting with the design for cladding our garden bed wall with the sandstone castle cladding product, finished with a light grey grout. It turned out amazing. Thanks for your help, prompt supply and after sales support.
